Pathways to Hospitality and Tourism is a practical, in-person capacity-building training program designed to support people living with disability to build confidence, employment readiness, workplace understanding and clearer pathways towards work or further training in hospitality and tourism.
Informed by feedback from HDNWA members, providers and industry partners, the program has been developed to support people who are interested in hospitality and tourism but may benefit from additional preparation before being referred directly to employers.
Program Snapshot
Pathways to Hospitality and Tourism is a two-day, industry-led training program designed to help participants build practical skills, confidence and a better understanding of hospitality and tourism workplaces.
The program includes:
- Practical hospitality and tourism skill-building
- Resume and interview preparation
- Customer service and communication confidence
- Workplace expectations and industry understanding
- Employer insights and industry connections
- Information about different roles across hospitality and tourism
- Options for jobs, further training and additional pathway support after the program
What Participants Will Gain
Over two days of practical, in-person training, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Build job-ready hospitality skills
- Strengthen resume and interview confidence
- Develop communication and workplace skills
- Learn about customer service and workplace expectations
- Explore different roles across hospitality and tourism
- Learn from industry professionals
- Understand possible next steps towards employment, further training or additional career pathway support
Who This Program Is For
Pathways to Hospitality and Tourism may suit people who:
- Are interested in hospitality or tourism
- Are living with disability and want to build confidence, skills and employment readiness
- Would benefit from practical preparation before being referred directly to employers
- Are exploring work, further training or a career change
- Are returning to work or looking for a fresh opportunity
- Are connected with a provider, employer or support network
- Are not currently connected with formal employment support but want to explore hospitality and tourism pathways
Pathways is designed to complement HDNWA’s existing direct referral process.
Direct referrals will remain open for candidates who are ready to enter employment now, while Pathways provides an additional option for people who may benefit from more preparation, industry exposure and confidence-building before taking their next step.
Program Details
Duration: 2 days
Delivery: In person
Schedule: Session 2 will be held in the week following Session 1
Cost: $495 incl. GST per participant
Payment: Required at the time of booking. A booking is not confirmed until payment has been successfully received.
Payment can be made by the participant, a family member, provider, employer or another person or organisation supporting the participant.
Some participants may choose to discuss this training with their provider, support coordinator or relevant funding contact before booking, to confirm whether it aligns with their individual goals, plan or support arrangement.
HDNWA cannot confirm individual funding eligibility, so please seek advice from your provider or relevant funding contact before booking if required.
Participants are responsible for confirming any funding arrangements directly with their provider, plan manager, support coordinator or relevant funding body before booking.
Optional Additional Pathway Support
Participants will learn about options for jobs, further training and additional career pathway support after the program.
Additional pathway support after the two-day training is separate to the Pathways to Hospitality and Tourism program and may involve a separate fee or service arrangement.
Optional additional training or pathway options may include:
- RSA
- Food Safety Certificate
- Food Hygiene Certificate
- Additional mentoring or career pathway support
These options are not included in the two-day Pathways training fee unless otherwise agreed.
Feedback, Questions or Concerns
HDNWA welcomes feedback, questions and concerns from participants, families, providers and other stakeholders.

HDNWA will review the matter and respond as soon as reasonably practicable. Feedback will also help HDNWA monitor the rollout, identify issues early and continue improving the program.
